Our mission is to share great music with our community, and to gather an appreciative audience for the many talented musicians we are priviledged to work with. Our focus is primarily on singer/songwriters who have also mastered a professional level of instrumental skills. Each season, we do feature one or two artists that are primarily instrumental in nature.

October begins our eighth season and  we are very excited about the 2017-18 line up. We’re bringing back some PRA favorite artists,  and, as always, are excited to introduce you to some excellent  performers that you may not know.

We call our opening artists "special guests" because most of them are quite talented and worthy of headlining a show themselves, but have generously agreed to perform a shorter opening set. This makes for an evening of very high quality music.

The Truth about Booking

Because we run just 8 concerts per year, each season we have a very limited number of headliner spots available. In addition, we tend to favor people we have seen perform. We try to balance giving new performers a chance with bringing back some of the performers who have presented great shows for us in the past. Typically we feature about 4 "new" performers per season and ask back 3 or 4 favorites from past seasons. With rare exceptions, shows are on the second Friday of the month.

For the most part, we give a preference to touring performers that might otherwise not be easily seen in the Bay Areas. There are some very talented artists from the Bay Area that we admire greatly, but they can pretty easily seen elsewhere almost every month, so they fall lower on our must-have list, or we offer them an opening set position. We have made exceptions for a few beloved performers that seem to draw a full house no matter what - Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis come to mind.

In general, we are a little more flexible with our opening set booking, so if you can afford to play for the approximately $100 that we pay the opening performer, contact us. Some performers have made the step up from opening act to headliner including the T-Sisters, Melody Walker and Jacob Groopman, Katie Dahl and Ernest Troost.

If you are interested in performing, please send a link to some live performance videos. Booking of headliners is done primarily in the late spring - April thru June.

We we are almost finished booking the 2017 - 2018 season.  As of this writing, we are booking opening slots for our upcoming season.

We Need Your Help: Calling All Volunteers

Since our initial season, our small band of volunteers have presented more than 50 shows. There are many facets to making the series run, and co-producers Claudia Russell, Bill Thompson, and I  have been doing many of these jobs with the help of a few dedicated volunteers: Bonnie Jo Cullison, Alice Gallagher, Cynthia Haagens, Liz Hymans, Sandra Soklin, and the occasional sound assist from Mark Lemaire.

We are alweyas looking to find new volunteers to help out each season, and take over some of the responsibilities in order to keep the series going for seasons to come.

Baker – brings baked goodies for audience consumption at the break.

Kitchen set-up and clean up – sets out snacks and beverages, cleans up after the break.

Sound – set up mics and direct lines, conduct a sound check, and ensure that the show sounds good. Break down mics and stands. Perhaps we would split this between two volunteers, who would each commit to 4 shows each.

Publicity – Gather bios and photos. Wrangle into a press release and send. Populate databases like SFGATE and Z Events.

Social media and email/web – update Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, create FB event, and update mailing list. Update web site, send email.

Show runner and booking contact – work with artists and other committee members to set schedule. Greet musicians, make sure they are comfortable. Emcee and announce performers. Pay musicians according to settlement sheet.  We need a second show runner who can run 4 of the shows.

Posters – produce poster, get printed and distribute.

Facilities - help make sure that the church is ready for the show, seats are available, etc.

Well, that's the news. We appreciate your support to date, and we really hope you’ll continue to come to PRA and enjoy the music in this intimate and friendly setting.

Please visit our web site, tell your friends about us, and if you haven’t already, like our facebook page. See you at the show!

Point Richmond Acoustic is made possible by the generous  support from Point Richmond Music and the First Methodist Church.

Point Richmond Music sponsors the Summer Concert Series, both concert series at the Methodist Church as well as Picnic in the Park, a fundraiser for the Washington Elemntary School Music and Arts Education programs.

You can be a season sponsor or sponsor a single show.

Becoming a sponsor helps us pay our performers more so that we can attract talent that would normally not be able to play an intimate venue our size.

For you, it means admittance to the show(s), recognition from the stage, reserved seats of your choice, and a chance to meet the performer before the show.

Visit here for more information or call Bruce Kaplan at 310-628-9589.
